Day One are the only national charity to provide personalised care to anyone affected by any kind of catastrophic injury, their loved ones and their families – for as long it takes.

Physio day at Northern General

It's wet and rainy and miserable weather but today is Physio day at the Northern General Hospital. No doubt I will be put through it with my physio Jackie who has been fantastic throughout my treatment there .

Gym encouragement

Friday 30th May

Thanks to Gaz at Your Space Hoyland Barnsley for pushing my challenge and giving me extra encouragement every time I go to the gym .

It's never easy but going there helps with building myself back up to a good level of fitness!

After the first infection from my left knee replacement in 2021 and getting Sepsis, being hospitalised and starting with PTSD and Anxiety , to needing a 2nd knee replacement due to the first traumatic knee dislocation in Crete, and then finally at home slipping on my kitchen floor dislocating my right shoulder, left knee, arterial damage and peroneal nerve damage. Needed emergency surgery to do a bypass on the artery, foot drop and pretty much learning to walk again... I then got Sepsis a 2nd time about 6 weeks after my artery surgery, (more hospital time) IV antibiotics which then got into my knee joint which required more surgery and hospitalisation to replace the knee altogether (again) and more recovery! I am sure there are bits missing here!

Endless physio, trauma therapy, scans, at hospital more than home!

So this is why I am giving back to Day One as they are still helping me so much with Peer Support, phone calls chats, financial help etc.

Painful walk!

Tuesday 27th May

Had a walk to pick a parcel up, walked a bit further to get home but was in agony doing so! Foot and knee were mega sore walking back up hill to home. Had to stop loads, forget how little it takes to fatigue me and the leg when walking! One of the reasons I want to do this challenge is to try improve my walking and leg itself.

Here goes, I aim to do 100k, or more in June for DOTS. Most may be done on the static bike in the gym, but I aim to up my walking, so please support me as you all know walking is right now a painful thing to do still, but as you all keep telling me I am a warrior! So let the walking warrior crack on!
